What to do when you don’t know what to do…

This all seems unreal.

This feels so impossible. We are surrounded by sickness and disease. Finances have been affected. The grief and pain of loss seem unbearable and never ending. There’s so much confusion and uncertainty. Even the strongest of us have found ourselves with head in hand vacillating between “I will Trust in the Lord,” and “Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen.”  Personally, I’ve never seen anything like this before and as full of joy as I usually find myself,  I have admittedly struggled in my inward man.The news is necessary but way too much some days. Social media is ok in balance but lately, too much to bear. My text thread was filling up morning, noon and night with distressing news and I found myself not knowing what to do.

Can we have a truth moment? It’s just you and I talking.

THIS IS HARD! I trust God but I still get nervous sometimes. I love God but I don’t understand all that I’m processing in my humanity.  And... I know I’m not the only one.  I find myself not knowing what to do and I hate that feeling.  Anyone who knows me knows I am extremely organized, I find comfort in routine, I don’t like it when things are out of control, and I don’t like it when I don’t know what to do.

King Jehoshaphat felt similarly in the 20th chapter of II Chronicles.  It seems that his enemies had joined forces against him and he didn’t know what to do. As a matter of fact, he acknowledged in prayer before the people in verse 12 that he had no idea how to handle the pending attack.  So King Jehoshaphat, what did you do when you didn’t know what to do?  It is recorded that the king said: “We do not know what to do but our eyes are on you” (II Chronicles 20:12b NIV).

Me: Stop the presses... shut your mouth and keep on talking... hold the phone... wait whachu say?

King Jehoshaphat: I didn’t know what to do so I put my eyes on God.

Me: Did that work?

King Jehoshaphat: Sho-nuff!

Y’all if you read the rest of the story you’ll find out that it worked for King Jehoshaphat then, and it’ll work for you right now. Place your eyes upon Jesus who is the author and finisher of your faith (Heb 12:2).  Keep your mind on Jesus and He will keep you in perfect peace (Is 26:3).

Whachu gonna do when you don’t know what to do? Put your eyes on Jesus.

Whachu gonna do when you don’t know what to do? Look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith.

Whachu gonna do when you don’t know what to do? Trust God.

Lord, we don’t know what to do but our eyes are on you.  Selah
